GlassJAw - The best band in the WORLD (In my opinion). They
hail from Long Island, New York and their music is probably best described as Posthardcore. Download great tracks like 'Pretty
Lush', 'Siberian Kiss', 'Majour', 'Piano', 'Tip Your Bartender', 'Mu Empire', 'Ape Dos Mil' and 'Two Tabs Of Mescaline'.
Afi - They have been around for ages, you probably have heard of them before, but
they have finally broke through with their new album "Sing The Sorrow". Though their music has many tags, I'd best describe
them as melodic hardcore/punk. Check out 'The Leaving Song Pt II', 'Silver And Cold', 'Girls Not Grey', 'This Time Imperfect'
and for older Afi I recommend 'The Boy Who Destroyed The World' and 'God Called In Sick Today'.
Killswitch Engage - Amazingly Insane metalcore. Their album "Alive Or Just Breathing"
is one of my favourites from last year. They no longer have the same singer though, but the new singer, Howard Jones, I think
is just as good, if not better. Get 'Self Revolution' and 'My Last Serenade'.
The Mars Volta - This is the new band from Ex At The Drive-in members Cedric and
Omar. Their album "Deloused In The Comatorium" is my favourite so far of this year. I have no idea how to describe their music,
I say just give em a listen to. Pick up 'Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of)' and 'Cicatriz ESP'.
The Icarus Line - Insane all over the place punk rock is the best way to describe
these guys. I missed out on seeing them when they toured last but apperently it was one show that you just had to see. They
have been called the most insane live band around at the moment and from the vids I have seen, thats justified. Get 'Feed
Your Cat To A Cobra' and 'Keep Your Eyes Peeled'.
Seemless - I mentioned a band earlier called Killswitch Engage,
well Seemless is a new band formed with the old singer from KE, Jesse David Leech. This band is very different from KE, a
much more rock sound. It's extremely hard to recognise Jesse on vocals as well. They have an album coming out soon so make
sure you watch out for that, but until that time get 'Lay My Burden Down' and 'Haze'.
Thursday - Awesome melodic rock band from New Jersey. They
have been around since 1998 and are one of the more intelligent bands out in the world at the moment (you can definately tell
this from their music). They are about to release their third album which is titled "War All The Time". I have only heard
one track from this album (it is called 'FOr the Workforce, Drowning') but the strength of this track is strong enough to
make me realise that this album is going to be first class. Their first album was titled "Waiting" and second was "Full Collapse".
"Full Collapse" is definately one of my favourite albums of all time. To get into these lads, check out 'This Side Of Brightness',
'Dying in New Brunswick', 'Understanding In A Car Crash', 'Cross Out The Eyes'and 'Standing On The Edge Of Summer'.
Heavy Weight Champ - I only got into these guys a few weeks
ago when me and all the crew went and saw them play with The Butterfly Effect at the Sawtell Hotel. They hail from Perth,
WA and are one of the best Australian bands I have ever heard. I picked up their EP (which the guys were nice enough to sign)
and it has been a huge part of my music playlist since I got it. Check out 'Two Triple Zero' and 'Down'.
Karnivool - Another band that I got into through the strength
of a live performance. I saw Karnivool when they supported Hatebreed and Soulfly at the end of last year and I was completely
blown away by their sound. The singer is a little off his nut though. I quickly got back to my pc and checked out some of
their stuff to find out it is as good as what I recalled hearing. They are also from Perth WA and are fast becoming one of
Australia's biggest alternative acts. Pick up 'Lifelike' and 'Headcase'.
Sikth - I think the most insane band ever to come out of anywhere has just began
to get big, and I dont know whether it is a good or a bad thing for the music world. Sikth hail from England and are fast
becoming the biggest band on the English alternative scene. They have just released their first full album and I am desperately
hanging out to get a copy. Their music is all over the place; riffs, beats and words being thrown at each other from every
angle. Imagine The Dillinger Escape Plan playing a Glassjaw song and having it produced by Mr Bungle. To get a taste of this
madness, grab 'Such The Fool' and 'Hold My Finger'.
